SpecBase 2 – Our NEW RV Showroom Solution

The History of SpecBase

Before SpecBase, the only feasible solution RV Dealers had that allows your SpecBase RV Showroom by RVUSAwebsite visitors to check out new model floor plans you were licensed to sell was to link to the manufacturer’s websites.  This of course takes visitors off of your website to a place where they can use the “Dealer Locator” that all manufacturers have on their websites.  Now we could make those links open in a new window, but there was still that chance you took when your visitors would locate and possibly buy an RV from another dealer.  The same is true today as it was back then, you work very hard to get visitors to your website and you want to keep them there as long as possible.  To that end, my team came up with a solution in 2006 – SpecBase – a huge database that we maintain that has all of the new model information, specifications, descriptions, floor plans, décor options, etc., for our dealer customers to easily display on their websites.

As you can imagine, this data entry project is a whole lot to monitor and maintain.  Over the years, this database grew to over 290,000 specifications and 20,000 floor plans.

We decided that to better serve our dealer customers, we needed to integrate your RV Showroom page with your actual in-stock inventory.  So we completely recreated SpecBase for you.

SpecBase 2 – Our NEW RV Showroom Solution

The RV Showroom page will have your models separated by brand and then by type.  Visitors can use the “Jump To” drop-down menu to get right to the brand they are looking for and/or use the “Group By” drop-down menu to display them by type and then brand.  From here, visitors can click on the model image or the title to go directly to the model detail page.

The Model detail page shows an exterior image, # of matching units you have in stock (links to inventory page) and the floor plans available (length, # of slides, MSRP, # it sleeps).  Visitors can click on the floor plan image and/or the View Specs & Features link to go directly to the floor plan details page.

The Floor Plan detail page shows an exterior image, the floor plan image, # of matching units you have in stock (links to inventory page) and the Specs & Features information at the bottom.  The Specifications tab is selected by default, and your visitors can click through the tabs for Interior, Exterior, Electrical, Options, Brochures and Photo Gallery.  Just above the Specs & Features section, on the left and right, you’ll see a link to view the Previous Floorplan and Next Floorplan or there is a drop-down menu to change the floor plan.

The nice thing about SpecBase is that you are in control of what manufacturers and models display on your website.  SpecBase 2 is updated twice a month with new models, which I then email the list to dealer customers using this tool on their website.  This gives them the opportunity, and serves as a reminder, to make any necessary adjustments to their RV Showroom page.

New Feature: SpecBase Auto-Fill

Our RV Dealers have a new tool that my team integrated into our Member Management Console this week – SpecBase Auto-Fill.

SpecBase Auto-Fill

Entering an RV, 2008 or newer, into our MMC is now faster and easier than ever before with SpecBase Auto-Fill.  All you have to do is select the year, classification, type, brand, model and floor plan from the drop-down boxes and you’ll get a prompt like the image above asking if you want to auto-fill the fields with the manufacturer’s data, including options.

If you select YES, our system will automatically import the data for MSRP, length, chassis, engine, # sleeps, slideouts, A/C, tank capacities, weights and the item features / options.  The stock number and price fields are the only two fields that you will have to manually enter for the most part.

Along with all the data, you’ll have the opportunity to use / select a stock photo and/or floor plan image with the unit.

To use the stock photo and/or floor plan photo, check the box(es) and the system will automatically insert them into the pictures for that unit.  Using the stock image is great for new arrivals that you haven’t had the chance to go take actual pictures of yet.  You can either keep the stock photo and add your pictures to it or replace the stock photo with pictures of the actual RV.

If you select NO, you’ll just enter the unit information and pictures like you normally would.

What’s the Time Website Design

NetSource MediaFor most dealers, potential customers take a look at their website first, to not only see what RVs, Trailers, etc., they have to offer, but to also get a feel for the “quality” of the dealership.  The design and programming team at NetSource Media recognize this fact, and are constantly looking for ways to improve Dealer websites, both custom-built designs and the library of professional EZ-Site designs available.  With either option, making sure the website visitors experience is an exceptional one, since it’s typically their first impression of the dealer, is extremely important.

Over the past 12 months, the NetSource Media team has added 6 new designs with 20 different color variations for the RV Industry and 6 new designs with 16 different color variations for the Trailer Industry to the EZ-Site Design library.

Along with the new designs, we’ve added designs with animated headers, mobile enabled designs and now have a design available to all verticals that will change based on the time of day the visitor accesses it.  During the daylight, it will have a blue sky and at night the background will change to a starry sky.  Quietwoods South Camping Resort is already using this design, “Adventure Awaits,” on their new website – www.quietwoodscamping.com.

RVUSA.com has an iPhone App!!

RVUSA.com now has an iPhone App that you can download from the App Store for free.  You can also use this app on your iPad.

Your Inventory Available Anywhere

Potential clients will be able to search your RV inventory 24/7 from their iPhone and then map your location or simply call for more details.  The Dashboard of the RVUSA app has options for “Search For Your RV”, “Favorites” and “Dealer Login”.  When performing an RV Search, visitors can search by type, condition, price range, year range, # of slideouts and location.  The results screen displays a thumbnail, year, mfg, model, price and location of each unit.  Visitors can then click on any of those units to view the details page.  One of the options on that page is to “Save as Favorite”, which will give them quick and easy access to those saved units right from the RVUSA app Dashboard.

Help for Your Sales Team

The “Dealer Login” link will give you and your sales team the ability to search just your units once logged in.  This login is the same as your MMC login.  This is a really handy tool to have when out on the lot.

Continued Development

We’ve already submitted a new version of our iPhone App and are just waiting on it to be accepted.  This new version will include additional features and tools such as:

  • Locate RV Dealers
  • Locate RV Service Facilities
  • Locate RV Parts & Campgrounds

The locators for each of the above will work by location, either their GPS or they can pick a state.  Check the app store in a couple weeks for this new version… if you download the current RVUSA app, once the new version is accepted it will show in your app store under Available Updates.

50 New State Specific Websites

The NetSource Media team released 50 new state-specific websites.

I have to toot our horn here just a little bit because I’m so proud of my design and programming team, who just last week completed 50 new State-Specific websites to add to the RVUSA.com network.  Everything we do is to drive more explosure and leads to our dealers and other members via email, click throughs to their website, phone calls, etc. 

We have the 60+ manufacturer / model specific websites that my team added about 3 years ago.  The visitors on those websites perform 2-3 times as many searches as they do on RVUSA.  That’s because those visitors know what they are looking for so when they hit the Fleetwood, Jayco or Keystone website we host, they stay and look around.

As these state-specific websites grow we are expecting similar statistics and then of course continued growth as we tweak them to their full potential.  Right now on each of these sites visitors can search for RVs for sale and Dealerships in their state right from the homepage and check out some featured units.  From there the links on the left will take visitors right into the area they need more information on specific to their state.
